Zjistili jsme, že nepřijal nabízené místo císařského velvyslanec v Římě. Nebyl vybrán ani na post císařského vyslance pro mírová jednání s Turky. Nezískal ani post velitele pražské pevnosti a prohrál i boj o úřad nejvyššího štolmistra. Veškeré jeho úsilí skončilo tím, že se chystal odjet na Maltu do centra svého řádu. Hlavním zdrojem se stala osobní korespondence mezi bratry z rodu Thunů. Tento příběh je následně interpretován v několika různých kontextech: 1) v kontextu dějin dvorské společnosti ve Vídni, 2) v kontextu dějin rodiny Thunů a 3) v kontextu dějin maltézských rytířů a díky tomu je vysvětlen jeho neúspěch. eng	For the greater glory of the Thun dynasty. Frà Franz Siegmund von Thun (1639-1702) in Vienna at the End of the 17th Century	The study reconstructs the story of the stay of the Knight of Malta, Francis Sigismund, Count of Thun, in Vienna at the end of the 17th century, during which he tried to obtain a high office at the court of Leopold I. We find that he did not accept the offered post of imperial ambassador in Rome. Nor was he selected for the post of imperial envoy for peace negotiations with the Turks. Nor did he win the post of commander of the Prague fortress, and he lost the battle for the office of supreme stablemaster (Obriststallmeister). All his efforts ended when he was about to leave for Malta, the centre of his order. The main source was the personal correspondence between the brothers of the House of Thun. This story is subsequently interpreted in several different contexts: 1) in the context of the history of the court society in Vienna, 2) in the context of the history of the Thun family, and 3) in the context of the history of the Knights of Malta, and this explains his failure.
