eng Western Christian Views on Islam during the Crusades and Reconquista In my paper I will introduce attitudes and opinions of the Western Christian authors on Muslims and their religion during and Christian Reconquista on the Iberian Peninsula and the Crusades in the Middle East, ie since the 11th till the end of 13th century. The main concern is to show the differences between the stereotypical image of Islam and Muslims and their real situation. The paper introduces the main treatises of the well-known authors describing Islam such Peter the Venerable, Thomas Aquinas, or Willian of Tyre. I will show whether mentioned authors supported the most common opinions and stereotypes regarding Islam and Muslims at that time, or if they came up with a new, perhaps more precise and more veracious perspective on Islam. I will describe how the individual authors agreed with at that time the most often opinions and stereotypes on Muslims and their religion and they did not bring even more precise and truer views on Islam. I will compare on one hand the attitudes of the authors living among Muslims and meeting them regularly (such as William of Tyre or William of Tripoli, who were born and lived in the Middle East in the Crusade states surrounded by Muslims) and on the other hand, the attitude of those authors, who had not personal experience wirh Islam (such as Fulcher of Chartress or Thomas Aquinas, who were born in Christian Europe). Another important factor, except personal experience with Muslims is also the period in which the specific authors lived and wrote. Finally, I will want to show if there was to the development of knowledge about Islam or not due to the frequent clashes Western Christian and Muslim world since 11th onwards.
