eng Political Thought of Hannah Arendt Contribution discusses Arendt’s understanding of politics as a fundamental concern of the public space. This is linked with not only the question of freedom but also the effort to establish a benchmark for political activity. Arendt here recalls Plato’s focus on the idea of the Good that should be a reliable horizon against which politics can be compared. Arendt examines the prerequisites of politics as phenomena of the world of the vita activa, where there is a distinction between labour, work, and action – that, as the highest human characteristic, is its own gateway to politics. In this connection, Arendt draws attention to the danger which for the “political” arises from the world of labour and work, should the homo faber mentality begin to engage in political affairs. In the political sphere, one has to distinguish power from force. Arendt, politics, ethics, philosophy, totalitarianism
