Deriving from Françoise Besson’s assumption that “travelling helps us to grow aware of the world around us thanks to our senses,” the paper demonstrates that the emphasis Robert Macfarlane, Raynor Winn and Jack Cornish place on embodied experience makes rocks and minerals in their works not mere scenic backdrops but active agents - repositories of deep history, metaphors for endurance and erosion, and catalysts for personal transformation. The paper argues that such geopoetic sensibility enables the writers to deepen their self-knowledge and sense of (un)homeliness. Such awareness of their place in the world prompts transformations not only in the writers’ personal relationships with the environment but also in their views on broader human connections to the non-human world. In doing so, their work participates in encouraging readers to perceive the earth not as a passive setting, but as a dynamic and layered participant in the stories we tell about ourselves and our place in the world.	landscape; travel writing; British literature; minerals
