eng Past Nostalgia and Future Belonging In this topic, we are researching an effect that imagining the past and the present world has on our sense of belonging. By conducting a two-fold investigation, the topic is structured to have two parts. The first part deals with the subjective connection to the past narratives and their relation to feeling of belonging in a current world. We plan to differentiate between the positive and the negative effects of nostalgia using contemporary philosophical approaches. Negative aspects of nostalgia can be directly linked to the politics of exclusion, oppression, and deliberative fallacies, while the positive aspects of nostalgia center around giving meaning to our home and our community with a sense of collective history. The second part of the topic is concerned with the question of future belonging and the concept of home as a social construct to which imaginaries can unite us, focusing on positive and negative aspects of future world-building. Positive aspects promote our community orientation and preference-ordering in our current paradigm. Negative aspects entail defeatism and dis-belonging, along with an empty reliance on utopianism which all directly influence the way we perceive our here and now. Following from our analysis, our main claim resides in the necessity of holding on to the past and the future in order to give meaning to the world in which we belong. nostalgia; future belonging; solarpunk; Bernard Williams,
