This invocation becomes a great weapon for, on one hand, affirming the status quo, while on the other hand, the affirmed status quo ensures the efficiency of this rhetoric. Having said that, this paper is concerned with providing a critique of the politically induced nostalgia which mediates social opinions. This shall be called, following from the famous movie Midnight in Paris, a Golden Age fallacy. With this in mind, this is a proposal of a critique of the Golden Age fallacy that follows from the famous work of Bernard Williams – In the Beginning there was the Deed. In this paper, we shall consider four arguments that can be derived from his book at that will be called the following – argument of moral and political regression, of temporal desynchronicity, of subjective experience and of reactivity. These four arguments will provide a basis for the criticism that shall be offered towards the mentioned Golden Age fallacy.
