Ukazuje se, že postoj Thomase Manna k tomuto básníkovi byl značně rozporuplný. Důvodem je zejména hledání vlastní orientace severoněmeckého autora na pozadí historických zvratů. Text dále obsahuje analýzy dvou povídek Thomase Manna (U proroka a Smrt v Benátkách), které mají určitý vztah ke Georgemu (resp. jeho kruhu) a uvedenou tematiku osvětlují. eng	Thomas Mann´s Relation to Stefan George`s Works	The article deals with Thomas Mann´s relation to Stefan George and his work. Mann´s statements about George are presented and commented in the first part. It becomes apparent that Thomas Mann's attitude to George was very contradictory. The main reason is the North German author`s self-searching on the background of historic reversals. The text also contains the analysis of two short stories by Thomas Mann (At the Prophet´s and Death in Venice), which have some relation to George (or more precisely to his disciples), and thus it clarifies the mentioned issues.
