The author uses the life story of Philipp Sigmund von Dietrichstein as a case study. He was the youngest son of Maximilian Prince von Dietrichstein but his education, grand tour, protection of his mother (Maximimilian´s widow), very favourable wedding, cooperation with his eldest brother Prince Ferdinand or mother´s inheritance helped him to integrate to the Viennese court society in the second half of the 17th century and gain the most prestigious functions and awards (Oberststallmeister, Golden Fleece order).	nobility; early modern times; grand tours; Habsburg court; Vienna; the Dietrichsteins
