eng	Partial quotation in the discourse of newspaper reports	Nowadays newspaper reporting is so inextricably linked with reported language that it is almost impossible to study one without considering the other. Traditionally, reported language is talked about in terms of formal, semantic and pragmatic aspects of its basic types, namely free direct, direct, free indirect and indirect forms. This paper relies on Semino and Short’s (2004) classification and is primarily concerned with so-called partial quotation, i.e. a combination of non-direct and direct form. Such forms in general are a very useful device since they exploit the summarizing potential of non-direct forms with the advantages of direct forms. The direct element can range from one-word expression to a complex phrase or clause. Based on the analysis of British broadsheet newspaper reports, the paper will comment on the frequency of occurrence of all types of partial quotes and explain their function with regard to the aim and conventions of newspaper reporting.	direct and non-direct reported forms; partial quotation; newspaper reports; broadsheets
