Due to the amendment to Act No. 563/2004 Sb. and Decree No. 317/2005 Sb., the accreditation of the CPS will expire in 2025. Therefore, we will no longer accept applicants to the CPS for the academic year 2024/2025.
By the decision of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, No.: MSMT-25785/2023-6-518, the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of the University of Pardubice has been granted accreditation for the implementation of the educational programme and the issuing of certificates of completion for: Study of pedagogy for teachers at lower secondary and upper secondary level.
For the academic year 2024/2025, we are accepting new applicants for this newly accredited study programme. More information can be found here.
1. Characteristics of the CPS:
Complementary pedagogical studies (hereinafter referred to as CPS) is a licensed form of specialised studies (where the participant acquires an additional or higher qualification in his/her field). This form of study is designed to provide graduates of a full university education (at least at the level of Mgr.) with the eligibility to teach at lower secondary schools and selected vocational subjects at secondary schools in the Czech Republic.
The CPS is an appropriate response to the current dismal situation in the teaching qualification structure of teachers of vocational subjects in secondary schools of all types, which, according to Act No. 563/2004 Sb., amounts to about 14% of unqualified teachers.
2. History of the CPS at UPCE:
At the University of Pardubice, the CPS was established at the Faculty of Chemical Technology (FChT) in 1994 on the initiative of prof. Ing. Josef Tichý, DrSc., at the request of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The main aim of the studies was to enable qualified graduates of UPCE to teach in secondary schools and thus improve the preparation of applicants for higher education in chemistry. As the number of faculties of the UPCE has increased, students from non-chemical disciplines, especially economics and more recently social sciences and humanities, have gradually applied to the CPS.
In the mid-1990s, experienced pedagogues participated in the preparation of the CPS curriculum, doc. PhDr. Milan Kratochvíl, CSc., doc. PhDr. Zdeněk Holubář, CSc. and RNDr. Jiří Tulka, CSc.
The lectures were also conducted by PhDr. Alena Kratochvílová, CSc., prof. PhDr. Josef Cach, CSc., prof. Ing. Karel Kolář, CSc., doc. PhDr. Jaroslav Teplý, CSc., prof. Ing. Václav Cempírek, Ph.D., prof. PhDr. Martin Bílek, Ph.D., prof. RNDr. Jindřich Hellberg, DrS., Ing. Pavla Lejsková, Ph.D., doc. PaedDr. Jiří Rychtera, Ph.D., and in recent years also PhDr. Mgr. Ilona Moravcová, Ph.D., prof. PhDr. Karel Rýdl, CSc. and other university teachers.
From 1 October 1994 to 16 May 2009, a total of 247 students graduated from the CPS in 13 rounds, and 90 students are currently studying in various semesters.
3. Current state:
Due to the increasing number of applicants for the CPS among the students of the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, a discussion was initiated in September 2009 with the current organisers and supervisors of the CPS at the FChT about the possibility of establishing another CPS centre at the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy. Since 2010, the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy, specifically the Department of Education, has taken on the new responsibilities of the existing FChT centre.
Since the academic year 2010/2011 the CPS has been organised by the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of the University of Pardubice, Department of Education. The supervisor of the CPS since the 14th round is prof. PhDr. Karel Rýdl, CSc.
Reaccreditation of the CPS according to the amendment of Act No. 563/2004 Sb. as amended by Act No. 198/2012 Sb. see here.
