Welcome to the department which trains future experts on communication in an English-speaking environment who are equipped with excellent knowledge of the English language, linguistics, literature and culture. English Philology is studied here in bachelor and master courses. Students can follow a path that takes them into areas related to lecturing and teaching, or that allows them to pursue a career in international business and various fields related to cross-cultural communication.

Since 2004, we have organized a biennial conference In/Outside the Frame gathering scholars and graduate students in the fields of literature, cultural studies, linguistics, and teaching and learning English.
Publications
The department publishes a scholarly peer-reviewed journal American and British Studies Annual which creates a platform for articles on American and British literature, visual arts, music and other cultural phenomena. The journal is listed in he SCOPUS database and in the ERIH Plus.
In winter 2024/25, we launch a call for papers for the first volume of Pardubice Insights into English Linguistics, a peer-reviewed journal publishing articles in morphology and syntax, semantics, pragmatics, stylistics, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, or corpus linguistics.
