Institute of Historical Sciences was established in 2001. It offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level of education in the field of history, with experts covering the whole range of human experience ranging from gender, diplomacy, war and warfare, economic history, history of aristocracy, history of demography, social and economic history.

Doctoral study has been offered at the Institute since 2005. To date, almost 60 doctoral dissertations have been defended, and our graduates — supervised, for example, by Professor Lenderová, Professor Vorel, Professor Čapský, Professor Škabrada, Associate Professor Jiránek, Associate Professor Kubeš, Associate Professor Macková, Associate Professor Marek, Associate Professor Panoch, Associate Professor Veber (†), Dr Vydra and Dr Hanulík — now work in many academic and memory institutions.
