Yu Ting Hsieh – Soochow University (Taiwan)

Why did you choose our university for your Erasmus stay?
The Faculty of Arts and Philosophy at the University of Pardubice has a partnership with my home university, and I was awarded a full scholarship by the University of Pardubice.

What were your first impressions upon arrival?
The University of Pardubice campus is cozy and surrounded by nature, making it an ideal environment for studying.

How would you rate the quality of teaching and support from the faculty?
Excellent.

What surprised or pleased you the most during your stay?
What surprised and pleased me the most during my stay was the opportunity to deeply engage with both local and international communities. I made friends in class, exchanged cultural perspectives, and assisted in executing all aspects of reporting on the first Taiwanese Literature Exhibition in the Czech Republic, which was later featured in national media. Among the courses I took, Presentation Skills was the most impressive—Ms. Mazurová, the instructor, was incredibly open-minded and consistently encouraged young people to go abroad and broaden their horizons. I had the opportunity to present my exchange experience to the class, and several classmates expressed that they found it inspiring.

I realized that I could not only learn new knowledge from diverse perspectives, but also significantly enhance my cross-cultural collaboration and crisis management skills. This experience not only enriched me personally and academically but also strengthened my determination to pursue a Master’s degree in Europe.

What activities or places would you recommend to future Erasmus students?
I highly recommend “Bakla Café” near Pernštýnské náměstí. I still can’t forget how delicious the macarons were!
