Individuální příběhy učení českých mluvčích anglického jazyka a jejich úroveň ve vybraných aspektech komunikační kompetence Kniha je jedním z hlavních výstupů mezioborového výzkumného projektu Aspects of English Language Acquisition of Czech Learners at the Onset of Teacher Education (GA ČR 13-25982S). Přínos realizovaného výzkumu pro oblast osvojování druhého jazyka, tzv. Second Language Acquisition, spočívá v tom, že výzkumné studie byly zaměřeny nejen na morfosyntaktické, ale také na fonologické i pragmatické aspekty osvojování angličtiny, na individuální rozdíly mezi učícími se jedinci a na jejich komplexní zkušenost s učením se angličtině. Přínos je dále spatřován ve využití moderních technologií (zejména tzv. concordancing software) při analýzách mluveného jazyka studentů a v implementaci metodologie smíšeného výzkumu. První kapitola je věnována výzkumnému designu, druhá a třetí kapitola prezentuje výsledky kvantitativní a kvalitativní analýzy individuálních příběhů učení. Ve čtvrté kapitole jsou představeny výsledky analýz korpusu mluvené angličtiny českých studentů (Corpus of Czech Students’ Spoken English) z hlediska gramatiky a diskurzu. Kapitola pět je zaměřena na vybrané aspekty anglické výslovnosti českých studentů při hlasitém čtení. Šestá kapitola integruje výzkumná zjištění získaná napříč výše uvedenými oblastmi a hledá možné souvislosti mezi typem získané zkušenosti s učením a dosaženou úrovní některých lingvistických a pragmatických kompetencí v mluvené angličtině vybraných studentů. Learning histories of Czech speakers of English and their achievemnet in selected communicative language competences The book is one of the most important outcomes of the research project Aspects of English Language Acquisition of Czech Learners at the Onset of Teacher Education (GA ČR 13-25982S). The project contributes to the research in SLA especially in the following ways: (a) by its focus not only on morphosyntactic aspects of the English language acquisition, but also on phonological and pragmatic aspects; (b) by investigating individual learner differences; (c) by the implementation of the concordancing tools for examining the properties of learner language; (d) by deploying both quantitative and qualitative methodology; (e) by providing a holistic description of language learning experience; and (f) by adopting an interdisciplinary approach. Chapter 1 presents the research project, its aims as well as research methodology. Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 together represent a mixed methods study of individual learning histories; however, each of them provided a different perspective. Chapter 4 collates the outcomes of multiple analyses of the Corpus of Czech Students’ Spoken English from the perspective of certain grammar and discourse features. Chapter 5 deals with the chosen pronunciation features from the point of view of theory, contrasting relevant aspects of pronunciation in Czech and English. Then it introduces findings stemming from the analysis of students’ reading aloud elicited by two different tasks. Chapter 6 brings the reader to the intersection of the research findings. Through the format of a multiple case study, the researchers interrelate the outcomes of the investigation of individual learning histories and selected communicative language competences, more specifically linguistic and pragmatic ones. The concluding part summarises the research findings and offers implications for educational practice. In addition, it debates the limitations of the current study and suggests possible directions of further research.
