Why are we Fighting? Philosophy in Polarized Times

Published: 30.04.2026

On April 10th, the Centre for Ethics hosted an international student conference called "Why are we Fighting? Philosophy in Polarized Times."

UPCE students were joined by others from Charles University as well as universities in Poland, Slovakia, and Belgium. They discussed the ethical, political, and affective dimensions of timely issues such as the climate crisis, the proliferation of conspiracy theories, pacifism, militarization, and appeasement strategies.

Additionally, local students in the Ethics and Political Philosophy MA programme prepared a poster showcase of their current research. This was the third installment of this annual event, which has become a highlight of the Summer Semester for the Centre.
