eng	“Chunky” Classicism in Eastern Bohemia after 1908 (and Its Ideological Roots)	The study examines the phenomenon of the return of representatives of Czech modernist architecture to the heritage of classical (ancient) architecture. It discusses the expressive register of modernism, expressing the ideal of material authenticity, preference for purpose, and a lively belief in building culture as a means of contributing to a morally better society. Using examples of several buildings in eastern Bohemia, it demonstrates how Czech modernists succeeded in filling classical architectural forms with new content that suited the new social context and aesthetic taste.
