eng	Mariana Starke (1762–1838) or the return of a famous traveler	In the context of the history of travel and apodemic literature, the study focuses on the personality of the English writer and travel guidebook author Marianne Starke (1762-1838), whose books became for several decades the literature of choice for travellers, especially those heading to Italy, and a model for modern travel guides. Her personality and work were forgotten for about 150 years, and only came to scholarly attention in the context of research into the history of women, and especially women's travel.
