cze	Úvod: Více než (jen) slova	Tato kapitola vychází z myšlenky „činy odpovídají slovům“ a obhajuje pragmatický přístup k interpretaci výpovědí v soudní síni. Vysvětluje pojmy „narativní“ a „narativnost“ a uvádí, že navzdory fragmentaci a nelinearitě lze soudní proces chápat jako specifický typ narativu. Kromě toho se kapitola zabývá souvislostí mezi používáním slov a několika procesy vytváření významu, které ovlivňují, jak jsou soudní narativy vytvářeny, sdíleny a chápány. Zdůrazňuje, že slova by nikdy neměla být vnímána izolovaně, ale v souvislosti s jejich uživateli a kontexty použití. eng	Introduction: More than (just) words	This chapter draws on the idea of “saying as doing” and argues for a pragmatic approach to utterance interpretation in courtroom interaction. It elucidates the notions of ‘narrative’ and ‘narrativity’ as well as posits that despite its fragmentation and non-linearity, the trial process can be conceived as a distinctive type of narrative practice or storytelling. In addition, the chapter considers the connection between the use of words and several meaning-making processes which have a bearing on how trial narratives are produced, shared and understood. It reiterates that words should never be viewed in isolation, but in relation to its users, contexts of use, as well as other modes. Finally, the chapter presents the contributions to the edited collection, stressing how they develop our understanding of how meanings are discursively constructed across jurisdictions through talk, gesture and materiality.	gesture; narrative; pragmatics; speech; subjectivity; trial practice
