Tato vztahovost je však stěží zjistitelná, protože vyžaduje určité uznání aspektů našeho zkušenostního života, které jsou tak zásadní, že je snadno přehlédneme. Pro environmentální filozofii je proto důležité, aby dokázala formulovat, co znamená tvrzení, že jsme vztaženi k ne-lidské přírodě. V této kapitole zkoumám tento pojem příbuznosti prostřednictvím četby klasické fenomenologie a současné environmentální etiky. Merleau-Ponty ve svých přednáškách píše o pojmu přírody: „Je to naše země [sol] - ne to, co je před námi, co stojí před námi, ale spíše to, co nás nese.“ (s. 3). V tomto smyslu se v knize objevují i slova, která odkazují na přírodu. V návaznosti na tuto myšlenku Robert Kirkman píše: „Vnímám svět jen proto, že tělo mého těla je spjato s tělem světa.“ V tomto případě se jedná o „tělo“. V tomto smyslu je příbuznost mezi lidským a ne-lidským předpokladem vnímání a afektivity. Navrhuji, aby nám příbuznost jako koncept umožnila lépe pochopit původ našich environmentálních emocí. Když pochopíme, že naše afektivita a smyslovost je spoluvytvářena ne-lidským děním, potenciální ztráta a zničení životního prostředí v nás vyvolává určitou existenciální hrůzu. eng Kinship and relationality as foundations for environmental emotions As humans we do not stand above nature. What we call nature, and its agency is not external to our life-form. However, this relationality is hardly detectable since it requires a certain acknowledgement of aspects of our experiential life that are foundational to such an extent that they easily go unnoticed. This is why it is important for environmental philosophy to be able to articulate what it means to claim that we are kin with the nonhuman nature. In this chapter I investigate this notion of kinship through a reading of classical phenomenology, and current environmental ethics. In his lectures Merleau-Ponty writes about the concept of nature, “It is our soil [sol]-not what is in front of us, facing us, but rather, that which carries us.” Building on this idea, Robert Kirkman writes: “I perceive the world only because the flesh of my body intertwines with the flesh of the world”. In this sense, kinship between human and nonhuman is a precondition for perception and affectivity. I propose that kinship, as a concept, gives us a more robust understanding of the origins of our environmental emotions. When we understand that our affectivity and sense-making is co-constituted by a non-human agency, the potential loss and destruction of environments triggers a certain existential dread in us. We come to understand that the environmental crisis, not only entails a certain loss of natural objects and biological life.
