eng Cleft sentences The primary goal of this presentation was to analyse adjuncts within cleft sentences, with a particular focus on the tendencies of Czech ESL students to overuse "when" for time adjuncts and "where" for place adjuncts in these constructions. After a literature review, a corpus study was carried out using the parallel corpus Intercorp v 16, which provides translation equivalents that can help assess cleft sentence structures in English. The main findings of this study indicate that although the use of "where" and "when" adverbs is attested, it is less common. ESL students should be aware of these patterns to avoid inappropriate usage. Cleft sentences; corpus; adjuncts
