Předkládaná kniha představuje jeden z prvních pokusů integrovat „animal turn“ do české historiografie, nabízí genezi vztahu lidí a zvířat z rozličných úhlů pohledu. Předkládá způsoby, jimiž lidé své zvířecí souputníky zobrazovali, všímá si jejich chovu a zužitkování, jejich „léčivé síly“, zvířat v roli darů, společníků a přátel. eng	Animals and their People	Recently, historiography has undergone what has been called an animal turn: animals, which until now have played a rather marginal role in the eyes of historians, have come to the centre of their attention - the fact that they actively participated in the development of human civilisation has been emphasised. To take the category of "animal" into account is indeed to think in the context of politics, economics, religion, society, culture. The present book represents one of the first attempts to integrate the "animal turn" into Czech historiography, offering the genesis of the relationship between humans and animals from different perspectives. It presents the ways in which people portrayed their animal companions, noting their breeding and use, their "healing power", animals as gifts, companions and friends.
