The author assumes that the mountain Pamirs differ from other groups of Central Asia in their religion and language. These aspects are the main themes of many travel and academic publications. The ways in which the Pamiris are described in the scholarly and travel literature is the main theme of this text. The author draws not only on a detailed literature search but also on his anthropological research carried out in the Tajik Pamirs.
