eng Non-European ethnography: regionalising the material culture of New Guinea The chapter is devoted to the material culture of New Guinea, in particular the regions of the Papuan Gulf, the Sepik River, and the Central Highlands. Other areas are described by the author only in geographic terms and by reference to specialized academic literature. The chapter is inspired by a series of textbooks, The Ethnography of Non‑European Areas, published in the 1960s and 1980s by the Faculty of Arts of the Charles University in Prague. It contains detailed information about selected exotic artifacts from New Guinea, their cultural functions, and their use.
