eng Means of steering conversation development in learner spoken discourse The paper presents the analysis of a learner corpus focused on the structures used by students for the purposes of building an effective collaboration. One part of the CCSSE (The Corpus of Czech Students’ Spoken English - Ježková, 2015) was analysed with the aim of identifying particular means of applying a collaborative principle. As the discourse of conversation is naturally co-constructed by both sides that must permanently react to the ongoing communication, the interactive character of such communication influences the choice of particular structures helping to build up the relations. The listener is both a recipient and a co‐constructor of interactive talk, so the “ends” and “beginnings” of turns are crucial for efficient communication. Thus, the research is focused on the relations of response elicitation and backchanneling structures in learner dialogues. The findings were presented in the context of second language acquisition. learner corpus; spoken discourse interaction; backchannels
