eng Building the Archive The first part of the text, Building of the Archives (Displaced Archives: Predecessors, Ideas, Separation) deals with the establishment and operation of the Archive of Prague Castle between 1920 and 1925. The establishment of the Archive was related to the establishment of new central offices of the Czechoslovak Republic, and it was a result of the Czechoslovak-Austrian filing separation that took place between 1920 and 1923. The second part of the text, entitled Morávek: Science, Qualification, Identity, focuses on the role and contribution of Jan Morávek (1887, Jičín – 1961, Prague) from the end of the filing separation to about 1937. The third part of the text, entitled Displaced Archives: The Decomposition of the Idea, the Suppression of Freedoms, Identity Disturbance, deals with the seven-year period between 1938 and 1945 when the Archive of Prague Castle was affected by occupation, the reality of war, and the oppressive presence of the highest occupation forces at Prague Castle. The oppressiveness of the occupation inherently influenced one of the basic activities of any archive – free research. castle archive; totalitarism; democracy; Czechoslovakia; Austria
