Došlo-li k pochybení ženy urozené, snažila se ho rodina vyřešit sama, často drasticky: roku 1507 nechal Mikuláš ml. Trčka z Lípy zazdít svou nevěrnou ženu, osmnáctiletou Kateřinu ze Šelmberka. O sedmdesát let později byla na tvrzi Svébohy u Nových Hradů zazděna paní Eliška Kořenská. Tvrdý a ponižující trest stihl na počátku 17. století neprovdanou Elišku Kateřinu Smiřickou, která svedla kováře. Pro historika je zajímavý především první z případů: osud Kateřiny ze Šelmberka nejenže zmiňují dobové historické prameny, ale i prameny archeologické, navíc našel ohlas i v krásném písemnictví 19. století. If the woman that had sinned was of noble descent, the family would try to resolve the situation in private - oftentimes in a drastic way: some of these women were walled in.
