eng Community in Contemporary American Ethnic Crime Fiction Crime fiction ranks among one of the most widely read genres of popular literature. Its history is rich and within the genres, many variations or sub-genres have emerged. Early stories and novels of the Anglophone crime fiction tradition were mostly focused on the unexpected twists of plot, the puzzle. But already in some of the best works of both the British Golden Age detective novels and the American Hard Boiled School, elements of social criticism appeared and the tradition has been strengthened in the sub-genre of so-called ethnic crime fiction. The paper focused on what constitutes this specific category and analyzed some of its best examples from the point of view of their depiction of a (usually ethnic) community.
