eng Engagement acoording to Jean-Paul Sartre Having written, in the 1940s, his philosophical work Being and Nothingness and his romantic trilogy The Roads to Freedom, Sartre takes a new and different path; he devotes himself to the formulation of a literary theory. From this effort results a particular conception, that of "engaged literature" which will decisively influence the rest of its philosophical expression and which will become philosophy itself. What is important to us is to examine why, after the publication of Being and Nothingness, Sartre interrupts his investigations carried out within the framework of the investigation of a "phenomenological ontology" and launches intensely into the determination literary principles. He would be rushed to explain this transition as a simple change of interests in view of politics; this orientation is, in fact, prompted by the very idea of his philosophy. In other words, an internal link links his philosophy and his requirements for literature. engagement, Sartre, Kundera
