Kniha přináší dvojjazyčné čtenářské vydání politicko-filozofického spisu Jana Jesenského (1566-1621) Řeč ve prospěch odporu proti tyranům, zkrácený pod názvem Proti tyranům, který byl vydán v napjaté atmosféře stavovského povstání v Praze roku 1620, kdy Jesenský působil jako rektor Pražské university. Jedná se o ojedinělý a poměrně pozdní ohlas kalvínských teorií odporu proti panovníkovi ve střední Evropě. Vydáním spisu autor zamýšlel jednak poskytnout teoretickou základnu stavům vzbouřeným proti císaři, jednak morálně a filozoficky ospravedlnit postup českých stavů před zahraniční veřejností. eng	Jan Jesenius: Against the Tyrants	The book is a bilingual edition of Jan Jesenius´(1566-1621) political and philosophical pamphlet Pro vindiciis contra tyrannos oratio (i. e. A Speech in Favour of the Entitlement to Resistance against the Tyrants abbreviated as Against the Tyrants). Jesenius who published the work in Prague 1620 when he worked as a rector of the Prague University was one of the leaders of Bohemian revolt against the Ferdinand II. Jesenius has dual goal in mind when issuing his political writing: On the one hand, he intended to provide an ideological basis for the military and political efforts of the revolting Bohemian Estates and on the other to justify the Bohemian estates quest for power in abroad. The book includes extensive introductory study, translation of the writing into Czech as well as explanatory apparatus.	Jesenius; political philosophy; tyrant; Calvinist resistance theory
