eng Practical Rationality and Practical Reason The talk argued that P. Winch´s criticism of the Contractual view of political obligation is tied to his acceptance of their naturalist view of action whose instrumental portrayal of Reason makes it inherently incapable of explaining obligation. It then tried to offer a more adequate conception of practical Reason and with it also of obligation. The general discussion of practical necessity, or obligation, was the first part of a longer piece in defence of the role of Reason in political obligation against the ‘Conservative’ tradition to which Winch “Certainty and Authority” provides an original contribution.
