Miguel de Unamuno není výjimkou a přispívá ke španělskému intelektuálnímu prostředí svými názory, které se liší během jeho mládí a po jeho existenciální krizi roku 1897. Unamuno vidí ve vědě jakési nebezpečí pro lidské hodnoty, protože rozum a logika vždy ponechávají stranou aspekty lidské existence, které jsou mimo jejich dosah. Odhalování smyslu našeho bytí se stává něčím nehodným jakéhokoli bádání. To vede k narůstajícímu odstupu od zachycení vnitřní podstaty života, a tak i k vzájemně protikladnému vztahu mezi vírou, tím osobním, a rozumem, tím objektivním. Podle Unamuna by jedinečnost lidské existence a s ní i otázka po smyslu života měla být přivedena opět do popředí, jinak podstatná část nás samých nenávratně zmizí. eng	Miguel de Unamuno's Attitude to the Sciences	The topic of science and its impact on human values is often discussed and was quite a popular problem in early 20th century Spain. Miguel de Unamuno is no exception and contributes to the intellectual Spanish milieu with opinions which are different during his youth and after his existential crisis in 1897. Unamuno sees in science a certain danger for human values because reason and logic always leave aside the aspects of man’s existence that are beyond their reach. Revealing the sense of our being becomes something unworthy of any kind of investigation. It leads to a growing distance from capturing the inner essence of life, and so to a mutually contradictory relationship between faith, the personal, and reason, the objective. According to Unamuno, the uniqueness of human existence with its questions for the sense of life should be brought back to prominence; otherwise an important part of ourselves will disappear irretrievably.
