eng	Bicycle and Woman Emancipation. From the first cyclists to the beginning of 20th century	The chapter, based on the contemporary interest journals and specialized literature, focuses on the relationship of women to cycling and covers the period from the 1880s up to the World War I. The rise of cycling sport together with the beginning woman cycling is mapped, dating back to the 1860s. Cycling provided them with the opportunity of free motion, a new type of social contact, allowing them to escape from the tight social control and giving them a more open communication with the opposite gender.
