eng	Illegitimate children in Polička in the second part of 19th century Illegitimate children in Polička in the second part of 19th century	The central theme of the work is the extramarital birth rate in the east Bohemian town of Polička in the years 1850-1899 based on the processing of data from Catholic registers stored in the State Regional Archive in Zámrsk. The study addresses a number of issues, in particular it compares the proportion of illegitimate children in several villages, it looks into the origin and social status of single mothers, and the chances for children to be legitimised, and it also compares the infant mortality rate between marital and non-marital births.	illegitimate children; single mothers; the town of Polička; birth rate; infant mortality; catholic registers
