eng	Lebanon as crucial part of the Middle East conundrum (Summer war of 2006 and its consequences)	The paper argues that the conflict in the Middle East cannot be resolved without the international recognition of the independence and territorial integrity of Lebanon. It also shows that the conflict has reached a new level of complexity since the assassination of Rafiq Hariri in 2005 and the Summer War of 2006. Whereas the death of Hariri accelerated the demands for Syrian military withdrawal from Lebanon, the Summer War could be seen as an attempt to bring Lebanon back under Syrian tutelage.
