eng Miguel de Unamuno and the dialectics of death The problem of death and immortality creates the very basis of Unamuno´s works. The concept of death has a certain contradictory and paradoxical attribute lying in its very nature. On the one hand, death has an universal character, because it is connected with every human existence, on the other hand, death in its universality touches every man individually in a very particular and personal way. The origin of contradictoriness in approaching to the problem of death may consist in its historical development, which caused the contradiction between faith and reason. Man wants to believe that his consciousness will somehow continue after his death, but justification of such faith by reasonal and logic arguments brings him to rational scepticism, which causes vital desperation of our desire for immortality.
