V rozmezí let 1878 – 1885 byl Plovdiv hlavním městem Východní Rumélie, autonomní provincie v rámci Osmanské říše. Od této doby až do dob pozdějších byl důležitým kulturním centrem Bulharska a ovlivňoval kulturní život v celém státě. Hudebníci měli významný vliv na kulturu, protože jejich díla tvořila základ oficiálních a neoficiálních oslav a byla součástí každé kulturní a společenské události. Hodně hudebníků pocházelo z Českých zemí a v Plovdivu strávilo velkou část svého života, někteří zde dokonce zůstali po celý svůj život. eng	The Czech musicians in the Bulgarian town Plovdiv in the years 1878 – 1936	This study describes the life of the Czech musicians in the Bulgarian city Plovdiv. They created the foundations of the Bulgarian musical culture after the liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule in 1878. In the years 1878 – 1885 Plovdiv was the capital of Eastern Rumelia, autonomous province within the borders of the Ottoman Empire and from this time the city remained an important cultural centre in Bulgaria and as such it had strong influence on the cultural life in the whole state. The musicians had significant influence on culture, because their works were the base of every official or unofficial celebrations and it was part of every cultural and social event. Many of the musicians were from the Czech lands and they remained in Plovdiv for a large part of their lives, some of them remaining here even their whole life.
