eng	Students between power and powerlessness: governance of Czech higher education between studentocracy, academic oligarchy and managerialism	Czech students played a central role in the governance of HEIs after 1989, even to the point of provoking protests against ?studentocracy?. We argue, however, that over the last two decades students have largely lost their power due to three important trends. First, the expanding student population has become largely indifferent to issues of higher education governance. Second, academics and especially the academic oligarchy have become the dominant actors in the governance of Czech higher education. And finally, managerial approaches to higher education governance, which gained prominance especially during the last few years, have redefined students? role from ?academic citizens? to ?customers?.	higher education; governance; students
