eng A pre-diagnostic stage of a research project: selected features of university students' pronunciation The presentation is concerned with an introduction of a part of the project aimed at the analysis and evaluation of selected features of the spoken language of students at the onset of tertiary education. The project consists of a number of parts, including the survey on students' individual learning histories, the analysis of selected discourse, grammatical and pronunciation features, and primarily the connection between them. The presentation briefly introduces the goals of the project and focuses mainly on the part dealing with the features of students' pronunciation and its place in the project as a whole. Attention is paid to the following areas: the description of the students taking part in the project; the data collection tools and their characteristics (monologic production, reading aloud and word list); the decisions regarding the selection of segmental features under analysis, reflecting some of the differences between the English and Czech phonological systems and the findings of previous relevant research; piloting the data collection tools. second language acquisition; foreign language learning; spoken corpus of university students' English; Czech and English phonological systems; reading aloud; word list; monologic oral presentation
