Pracoval jako novinář pro "Die Zeit" ve Vídni a jako literární kritik v "Dresdner Neue Nachrichten". Pro 2. světové válce založil na Masarykovo přání německy vydávaný list "Prager Presse" a od roku 1920 působil až do roku 1938 na Velvyslanectví Československa v Berlíně ve funkci tiskového atašé. Současně působil jako zprostředkovatel mezi německou a českou kulturou a literaturou, překládal do obou jazyků významná literární a politická díla a uváděl je do povědomí na obou stranách česko-německé hranice. Od obsazení sudetského pohraničí žil v Praze, v roce 1942 byl převezen i se svojí ženou do Terezína a 28.10.1944 následoval transport do Osvětimi, kde byl okamžitě po příjezdu jako občan židovské národnosti zavražděn v plynové komoře. eng	Poet, diplomat and translator Camill Hoffmann	A poet and a diplomat Camill Hoffmann, born in Kolín in 1878, mastering both languages of his homeland – Czech and German, entered the literature by two German-written books of poetry, following folk themes: “Adagio stiller Abende” (1902) and “Die Vase” (1910). He worked as a journalist for “Die Zeit” in Vienna and as a literary reviewer in the Dresden newspaper “Dresdner Neue Nachrichten”. After the World War I, at Masaryk’s request, he founded the German-written newspaper “Prager Presse” and, from 1920 to 1938, he acted as a press attaché at the Czechoslovak Embassy in Berlin. At the same time, he acted as an intermediary between German and Czech culture and literature; he translated significant literary and political works into both languages and put them into awareness on both sides of the Czech-German border. Since the occupation of the Sudeten borderlands, he lived in Prague; in 1942, he and his wife were transported to Terezín and two years later, on the 28th October 1944, he was transported to Polish Oświęcim where he was, as a citizen of Jewish nationality, murdered in a gas chamber immediately.
