eng	The Sherlock Holmes of Navajo Tribal Police: Tony Hillerman and the Tradition of Detective Story	The article discusses the work of the mystery writer Tony Hillerman. Placing him firstly into the tradition of the genre of detective story, it then focuses on Hillerman’s two literary detectives Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn and sergeant Jim Chee, both of the Navajo Tribal Police, on the way Hillerman employs the Navajo concept of hozho as a metaphysical framework for his plots and makes the detectives’ intimate knowledge of the traditions, beliefs and rituals of the southwestern tribes as well as of the rough beauty of the landscape central to solving the crimes.	detective story, Tony Hillerman, Navajo Tribal Police, American Southwest
