eng Looking at teaching and learning from a comparative perspective Video-based research has been one of the methodological approaches employed by the Institute for Research in School Education of the Faculty of Education, Masaryk University since 2004. In the presentation, various video-based analyses will be described that were carried out in different school subjects (Physics, Geography, English and Physical Education). The aim of these explorative analyses of realized curriculum was to describe and analyze the current state of teaching in the Czech Republic in various school subjects. The ultimate goal of the analyses was to provide cross-cultural perspective on the processes of teaching and learning as they take different forms in different school subjects. The analyses were inspired by research activities carried out at the IPN, Kiel. The presented activities concentrated among other aspects of teaching and learning on modes of classroom interaction, phases of instruction, the use of didactic tools and media, opportunities to talk.
