This text aims to analyse the complex notion of African renaissance, its causes and consequences, as well as the objectives this intellectual phenomenon is trying to set up. I will deal with the problem whether it is meaningful to ask questions like ?Who are the Africans and where are they coming from?? The contemporary revival of the topic of identity on the African continent will be given into context with a similar discourse which si nowadays lead within the western culture.
