The Desire for Good and the Anticipation of the Future in the Alexandrian Exegetical Tradition

Provider: Grantová agentura ČR
Programme: Standardní projekty
Implementation period: 01.01.25 - 31.12.27
Workplace: Fakulta filozofická - Oddělení filosofie
Investigator: Dudziková Markéta
Description:
The project will examine orientation towards the future in the writings of Philo of Alexandria and other authors that were inspired by him, esp. Origen and Ambrose of Milan. According to Philo, the real moral progress and increase in knowledge presuppose constant focus for the real good; this good exceeds the possibilities of human knowledge. The longing for the good that is not yet known, its expectation and anticipation play a significant role also in early Christian writers. The project will study and compare these different forms of desire for the future good, its expectation and anticipation.
