Description:
The project extends students' knowledge of Slavonic, cultural and regional history through field excursions and field instruction at sites associated with 1) important elements of the Lusatian, Sorbian and Silesian cultures; 2) history, culture and visual art of the Czech state. Selected places of excursions thematize the connection between center culture and periphery, present ways of minority existence in Central Europe and represent the connections of West Slavic peoples on the linguistic and cultural side at the borders of German and Slavic elements. The project assumes active involvement of students through presentations at selected excursion sites. Expected topics will be: Lusatia in Czech History, Bautzen as Lusatia, Lusatian Serbs and High Medieval Czech State, Czech-Lusatian and Czech-Sorbian Cultural Relations, Jakub Böhme, etc.
