In the Czech historiography the history of the body is completely neglected area. Given that body and bodylines belong to the key issues of social sciences and humanities, we consider as necessary to carry out systematic research on this issue and build a foundation for further development of research on the body in Czech Republic. Research area is the history of the body in the so-called long 19th century. Geographical boundaries within in which will be implemented investigation of archive sources, is defined by the present area of the Czech Republic or in wider frame territory of the former Habsburg monarchy. Key issue, which will be crucial in terms of the project research, is following: strengthen political, social and economic changes in 19th century repression of the body or allow his release? The aim of the project therefore will be gathering and analysis of sources relating to the history of the body in the above outlined geographical area and chronological definition in order to compare the conclusions from the analysis of the archival sources in the context of contemporary scientific knowledge, especially western historiography, in order to draw differences in development and characteristics which were specific to the Bohemian lands in 19th century.
