The proposed research project focuses mainly on the origins, development and the current situation of the Study of Religions in Central and Eastern Europe particularly in the 20th century when the discipline undergoes a rapid development in the whole of Europe. The project will analyze various methodological approaches, main research interests and the periods? issues. A critical attention will be paid to ideological influences determining the interpretation of religion in particular stages of the development. The project will analyze main works of those scholars and researchers who contributed greatly to the development of the discipline, will discuss important research centers, journals, research projects and national and international projects and cooperation in the field. Because for the Study of Religions, the interdisciplinary dimension is essential, the project will also inquire into the contributions of related disciplines for its development, such as Oriental Studies, Sociology, Ethnology, Psychology, Philosophy, as well as Protestant and Catholic Theology.
