Basic information:
There is support for the research activities of graduate (MA and PhD) students of our department. If the financial situation allows, we would like to reward you for academic publications (papers, books etc.) that you publish during your studies. We hope that this support will allow you to devote more energy to your academic careers.
If you publish an academic publication during the calendar year, which you dedicate to the University of Pardubice and which you fill in the OBD (personal bibliographic database - according to the manual developed by the department) by January 6 of the following year, we will pay you a financial reward. For a typical output, i.e. an academic paper published in a field-relevant peer-reviewed journal, the amount of the bonus would be CZK 10,000 or CZK 25,000. The specific amount of the stipend will depend on the quality of the text: we will peer-review your paper at the department, and if we evaluate the text as standard, you will be entitled to a reward of CZK 10,000, if above standard, a reward of CZK 25,000 (if we consider the text to be of poor quality, we will reduce the stipend or not award it at all). In the case of academic texts other than papers, we will adjust the amount of remuneration accordingly (e.g. we would try to pay a higher stipend for a high-quality book, a lower one for a good review).
How to apply:
As soon as you submit your professional publication to OBD by January 6 of the following year, you will notify your colleague František Válek by e-mail (frantisek.valek@upce.cz). In the email, you will attach a PDF of the text and provide basic information (what the text is - an article, a book chapter, a review, etc. - year of publication, journal or publisher). The department will then peer-review the text and pay you a stipend in the appropriate amount. If you are finishing your studies in a given calendar year, and therefore it would not be possible to deliver you the scholarship the following year (payment of the scholarship is conditional on you still being a student), write to František Válek well in advance of your graduation (at least three months in advance). In the year of graduation, you can also ask for a stipend for unpublished texts that have already been submitted for review.
The payment of this support depends on the financial possibilities of the department and the number of published texts. Therefore, unfortunately, we cannot promise this support without reservation and would have to reduce or cancel it if the financial situation deteriorates. However, we will try to pay it in this way in the longer term.
What is this support for?
- The aim of the support is to finance selected foreign trips of KFR students and at the same time to support them in actively presenting the results of their research abroad.
- This support can be paid by the faculty or department.
Who can apply?
- PhD candidates and students of MA programme at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at the UPCE Faculty of Arts (including students in combined studies) can apply for departmental support according to the conditions below. This support is paid only after the trip has taken place.
What conditions must be met?
- Each student can submit a maximum of 3 different applications.
- To participate in the competition, an approximate plan for the trip abroad must be drawn up, together with an estimate of the expenses involved. This travel proposal must be submitted according to the instructions below.
- This support is primarily intended to fund active participation, so it is necessary to specify which conference or workshop the student would like to attend and with what contribution. It may be the case that at the time the student applies for support they do not yet know whether their paper has been accepted. (If a student is promised funding for an overseas trip, but their paper is not accepted at the conference, no award will be paid.)
- There are no restrictions on the destination of the trip; it can be any foreign country.
- Selected students will be supported, and the trip must be completed by the end of March 2027.
How much money will I receive?
- There is no maximum amount of support, but as travel support resources are limited, the amount paid is unlikely to cover all the costs incurred in making the trip. (For example, support will cover transport to the conference venue and accommodation, but not per diems.)
How and when can I participate in the competition?
- A proposal for an international trip, together with an approximate estimate of expenses, should be submitted electronically by March 20, 2026 to matej.cibik@upce.cz. Applicants will be informed about the outcome by April 1st,.
- After the trip is completed, a report must be submitted to the Dean's Office.

The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies has decided to encourage students to apply for external grants. We will pay students a financial reward for submitting and eventually succeeding grant applications.
The reward is not contingent on the success of the application; the submission of the application itself will be rewarded. However, if the application is successful, the reward paid will be higher. (See below for exact amounts.)
The payment of this award is dependent on the current KFR budget and will not be paid if the allocated funds are exhausted.
Who can apply for this award?
- PhD and students of MA programme in Philosophy and Religious Studies at KFR FF UPCE (including students in combined studies).
How much money will I receive?
- The award for a standard challenging grant submission is 2,000 CZK. If the application is successful, an additional CZK 5,000 will be paid.
How do I proceed if I am interested in applying for support?
- Ideally, interested applicants will send information that they plan to apply for an external grant at the beginning of the year to diana.kalaskova@upce.cz. This can also be done during the year if the applicant decides later. Once the grant has been submitted, a confirmation of the grant submission should be sent to the above address and a copy of the grant application should be attached.
